Poison Dart Frogs - Captive { 30 images } Created 6 Oct 2010
Poison Dart Frogs are diurnal, usually brightly colored frogs of the family Dendrobatidae that are found in Central and South America. About one-third of the known species of dendrobatids secrete powerful toxins from dermal granular (poison) glands. Three of these poisonous species were used by the Embera people of western Colombia to poison their blow-gun darts for hunting. We have a good image collection of both captive-raised dart frogs as well as dart frogs photographed in the wild.
